Using traditional tooling can sometimes not be the most cost effective answer. With a laser it can be programmed to do repititious movements over and over again. Using a laser will guarantee that each part will be identical to the part that was previously cut. The tolerances on a laser are also very tight meaning that they will be in spec  100% of the time. Being that a laser will save time that savings can be transferred to the customer. Different feed rates can also apply depending on what materials are used and the thickness of such materials.

One thing nice about a laser it can leave a very attractive edge on the finished product. If its acrylic a laser will leave a mirrored edge on the finished part. Different types and colors are easily cut and finished with a laser. The engraving capabilities of a laser are a very attractive way of getting just about anything on certain substrates. A display stand can be something as simple as a basic square clear acrylic risers.  It all depends on your product, if you sell shoes your acrylic display might be a slanted display stand.  If you sell jewelry small acrylic risers might be your option.  Clear acrylic risers have the option to be manufactured to just about any specifications.  Riser sets might be an option, various heighths and widths could be an answer.

point of purchaseHave you ever walked into a store and saw a product that was quite interesting but the retail fixture being used to display it was lack luster?  Store fixtures come in all shapes and sizes  some attractive  some not.  Retail store displays have one function and one function only and  that is to get your product noticed.  A clothing store fixture would be completely different than store fixtures designed for an appliance store. If it’s a point of purchase fixture, something that you want to use to sell your product more thought will need to go into the design.

Is a cheap clothing store fixture going to work for you?  Maybe, but do you want to display your product in something that may not be that attractive?  Most retail fixtures that I design I like to have them be attractive but not to the point of distracting from the product that you’re trying to display.  With point of purchase fixtures it seems like the price of the store fixtures plus one cycle of the product is the price that you will be paying.

point of purchaseRetail store fixtures are made from a lot of different materials.  Acrylics, plastics, polycarbonate and petg are very common materials.  Acrylic or plastic comes in various thicknesses and colors and is quite easy to fabricate. Polycarbonate can be had in different colors but clear black and white are the most common.  Harder to work with but very durable. A lot of people are using petg for store fixtures. Durable and very nice to work with but a point of purchase fixture out of petg are usually clear. It also works really well for acrylic displays.

The first thing to do is find an acrylic fabricator that has a good reputation and one that you feel that you can trust.  Most store fixtures are not that hard to design.  Retail store displays can sometimes be designed in less than an hour but others may take longer.  Say someone calls me regarding a clothing store fixture, I might ask if they could send me all the products that they want to use with that retail store fixture.  Either way just make sure you’re feeling comfortable with the person you called regarding your retail store fixtures.

glove box holdersThe hospital industry is constantly searching for ways to display their latex gloves. Every room in the hospital will have some sort of unit designed for these purposes. The problem is finding  a unit that works well in that specific environment. At Modern Plastics Designs we have manufactured numerous types of glove box holders that are specific to the rooms that they are going to be used for. American ProductsHaving been an acrylic fabricator for almost a quarter century I know how hard it can be to compete with overseas manufacturing.  The wage differences are very hard to swallow on the U.S. side of things.  Plus the pricing on many materials is very hard for us to compete with.  Being a plastic fabrication company was very straightforward for many years.  Set up a network of distributors in the states and start purchasing materials.   Acrylic fabrication companies now have to work with the distributors on all types of import materials.

The reason to buy American products

American ProductsAs a plastic fabrication company I have always been very proud of this country.  For years we have designed and produced custom displays for numerous industries.  It has always been a pleasure doing business with companies all over this great land.  But the mentality we have developed over the last decade is very sobering and definitely a detriment to the growth of this great nation.  We need some type of incentives to bring our companies back to our own shores.  What is sad is that our leaders are typically silent about this, and have shown no incentive to change this way of thinking.  So if you do have a choice buy it locally, even if it’s to support a small business located in your community.

Acrylic Sign Holders Atlanta Georgia

The funny thing about sign holders.

Not sure there’s anything funny about wall mount sign holders it’s just something I used to grab your attention.  In a business environment, table top sign holders or angled sign holders are designed to display copy that is relevant to your customer.  Sign holders can be designed as bottom loaders or top loaders.  Bottom loaders are basically an upside down T and can be loaded from the side or bottom.  Top loaders are an upside down T that can be loaded from the side or top.  Top loaders are great for keeping the copy from getting dirty, but they do have a tendency to break fairly easy.

What sizes are available in sign holders?

A printing company will use many standard sizes for wall mount or slat wall sign holders.  An 8.5 x 11 portrait or landscape is a common size as is 11 x17.  There are many standard sizes that can be used with plastic sign holders.  What if you’re looking for acrylic sign holders that are not of a standard size?  That is where companies like my own come into play.  At Modern Plastics Designs we have the capabilities to fabricate a table top or angled sign holder any size that you would need.  Sometimes standard copy just doesn’t fit the vision that you have in mind.

Museum Display Cases

Museum display cases.

When you tour a museum you see acrylic or plastic cases covering just about everything.  The thing is someone has to sell these museum display cases, but who?  Museum cases are very time consuming.  They need to come out looking just stellar and that takes time.  Museum cases are usually made from thicker acrylic.  I will explain the fabricating process of those cases next.

Display cases and the fabrication process.

First thing I receive is a print or drawing from the curator detailing the dimensions of the case.  He or she will state what thickness of material they need and the color.  At that point we will give them a quote for the display cases.  If the case is approved the fabrication process will begin.  The first saw I use is a panel saw which cuts it down to a dimension close to the print size.  Then I will cut the material to exact sizing on the table saw.  The final stage with the acrylic or plastic will be putting some type of finished edge on it.  That can be accomplished with a jointer or a router.  Larger cases will have all parts cut on the CNC.

Display cases and the fabrication process continued.

We then use gluing fixtures to hold the acrylic or plastic in place during the solvent bonding process.  Cure times will vary depending on temperature or humidity.  I will usually glue one side, then let it sit for an hour before gluing another side in place.  After all sides are glued in place, I will let the display cases rest for 48 hours.  At that time I can put some type of profile on the edges if need be.  The last stage is the flame polishing stage.  We will use a hydrogen and oxygen torch to put an attractive edge on the case.

Trophy or retail cases

Museums are not the only places you will see display cases.  Walking into a store you will see acrylic retail cases everywhere.  Wall mount plastic display cases are easy to fabricate.  Trophy cases are another option for your business.  So if you have any type of product that you want to display in a secure way, display cases would be your choice.  So if it’s a retail display case, a trophy case or a museum case-give us a call.  Thanks for taking the time to read this article on cases.
